How to Play Badugi – Example Badugi Poker Hands

Here we will give a few example hands to help you understand what hand beats another and why. Player-1: 2-5-6-7 Player-2: A-2-3-8 Player-3: 2-3-4 Player-4: 3-4-6-9

Of these four Badugi hands, Player-1 is awarded the pot. Even though Player-2 has three cards that rank lower than Player-1, it is only the highest card that determines the winner.Since Player-1′s 7 is lower than Player-2′s 8, Player-1 wins. Also, Player-3 has the lowest high-card, but since he has only a 3 card hand, it automatically losses to any 4-card hand, giving Player-3 the worst hand overall.

Let’s try another example Badugi hand.

Player-1: A-2-4-9 Player-2: A-3-4-9 Player-3: 2-6-7-9 Player-4: 3-4-5-9

Notice all players have the same highest card – the 9. In this case, we look to the second highest card to determine the winner. Both Player-1 and Player-2 have the next highest card of 4, eliminating the other players. Player-1 and Player-2 then compare the third highest card. Player-1 wins jackpot because his third highest card is a 2, ranking lower than Player-2′s third highest card, the 3.
